How do moderators, mutes and bans work?

Short answer

A Booki can name moderators to help run their rooms. The Booki and moderators can delete messages, and mute or ban a member. A mute or a ban holds in all of that Booki’s rooms.

Moderators

A Booki names moderators in Settings, Chat rooms, by their exact username, up to 10. A moderator:

  • gets into every room of that Booki, without needing a membership;
  • can delete and pin messages;
  • can mute or ban a member;
  • cannot change the rooms or name other moderators.

Mute

A muted member can read but cannot write or react, for 10 minutes, 1 hour, 1 day or 7 days. The room shows when the mute ends.

Ban

Only a member on a Booki’s free tier can be banned from that Booki’s chat rooms. A banned member no longer sees them, until the ban is lifted.

A member on a paid tier can be muted, but not banned: they are paying for the rooms. If a banned member moves to a paid tier, the ban stops counting for as long as they pay.

In a game thread anyone can be banned. A person banned there can still read, and cannot write.

Appeal

If you are muted or banned, open Messages and choose Mutes and bans on you. The mute or ban is shown there with a box to appeal. You can appeal each one once. Whoever runs the rooms reads it, and either lifts the mute or ban or keeps it.

Lifting a mute or a ban

The Booki and their moderators can lift it: from the shield button at the top of a room, or, for the Booki, in Settings, Chat rooms.

The Booki and moderators cannot be muted or banned in their own rooms. A mute or a ban in one Booki’s rooms does not apply in another Booki’s rooms.

Playbooki can also remove messages, and can mute or ban anyone, in any room.
